Everything about this song is sheer brilliance. The gradual aggression, how the tone of the song flips to make the "victim" the "villain", how the music swells and creates this turning effect in the music when Joey begins to talk about dancing with the evil. I could listen to this 100 times over and still feel absolutely captivated.

I love the shift in the music at 5:20. It goes from a tone of desperation and aggressive retaliation to an almost relaxed yet still accelerating crescendo of confidence and power

One of my favorite songs! Joey’s growls and rasps, and the way he belts it out just feels like it was ripped from the depths of the darkest moments. This song grabbed me by the soul when I first heard it, thank you for the lyric vid.

My small theory: I feel like this song is about stepping out of your comfort zone. "Old Witch Sleep" is self-pity, while "Good Man Grace" is willpower

If I don’t sound like this when I go on T I’m gonna riot /j. Seriously though, this man’s voice is so voice envy. Especially the “let’s bury this” bit and everything that comes after in that section. His voice is soooo aaaaaaaaaaa I love it so much!!!!

If you're the kind of person to listen to this kind of music, you've definitely imagined music videos before and I love that for you. For me, it's my blorbo, a former magical girl named Tessa who spiraled into depression and drove away her remaining friends after the event that led to her losing her magic. The monster that killed most of her friends for a larger agenda spent a while waiting outside her window, and when she finally went out alone at night to confront it, expecting and hoping to die, it possessed her, revealed a horrible truth to her, and the two merged. Right now it's unclear how much of Tessa remains in the resulting villain, but it's been one night and she's already caused a really bad situation in the name of... something that hasn't been revealed yet. Hearing this I imagine her wanting to unmerge, stop doing evil, end this before anyone dies. The Good Man Grace here is Undine, Tessa's only surviving teammate, who in this imagining is trying to find a way to separate girl and monster so she doesn't have to hurt Tessa. Here, Tessa starts fighting back against the monster she's become one and the same with, eventually overpowering it through force of will, until the two retreat back into that trippy spooky mindscape we saw during the possession scene, which has changed somewhat because Tessa's got more control now. Cue the battle in her mind, and cue the glowing and screaming and, at the end, destroying the monster from inside, leaving Tessa standing there, still glowing a little, with those gold pupils she had back in her magical girl days that were implied to be plot relevant via the author stating that one of her teammates only has them for cosmetic purposes but conspicuously refusing to comment on whether that's the case for Tessa.

Okay, a few years have past since I last time listened to this song and here’s my new interpretation. I may misunderstand some lyrics since English is not my first language, but I hope I got everything right. To me, this song feels like the real journey of the main character becoming stronger. At the beginning, they’re tired, powerless, and their own mind starts to validate them, telling them: “You don’t have to be brilliant.” That others are just trying to find their own light, and they won’t even stay in your life so there’s no need to listen to them. The old witch Sleep comforts the character, saying things will be okay tomorrow and lets them rest. Then people come with wine, which I think symbolizes either distraction or a temporary way to calm down. They hum and say “no” to the things the character says maybe they’re devaluing their words, or maybe trying to support them. Either way, the character starts drinking falling into negative coping mechanisms. They feel like all the good is gone, and all they can do is laugh. Then comes “Good Man Grace,” who I see not as a real person, but more like their willpower the last bit of strength and desire to become better. He tells them they’re better than they think and they can get through it. But the character refuses to believe it and stays in that feeling of helplessness. Sleep returns now more like self-pity, or maybe even self-compassion saying: “You’re not a coward just because you cower. You’re brave, because you were broken and even broken, you still breathe.” That moment felt like accepting your imperfections, validating your feelings. “Just breathe” maybe a literal reminder to calm down, or a metaphor for choosing to keep going. Then the people pour another glass, and now the character praises their talents and forgives them. Maybe this means letting go of resentment, accepting people by remembering the good in them even though earlier they were the ones saying “no” to the character’s pain. Then comes full self-acceptance and moving forward. The character learns not to be afraid of their thoughts and emotions not avoiding them, but “dancing with them.” All those thoughts and feelings are deeply rooted in them “you are in the earth of me.” They even start to see beauty in their breakdowns “don’t you think I look pretty curled up on this bathroom floor?” They accept their falls and even see meaning in them “where you see weakness, I see wit. Sometimes I fall to pieces just to see what parts of me don’t fit.” That’s like learning from failure. As they change, others start to fear them or whisper behind their back and I think that’s true in real life, too. When we heal, we stop being easy to control. We start putting ourselves first, and that can make old relationships fall away. This song felt so personal. It’s about healing, standing up again, and finally saying: “My head’s not yours it’s mine.”

I love this so much And be warned personal shit: But As someone who battles with ptsd and depression from childhood neglet and shit. This. Capsulates how my healing went. Starting off sad and tired and giving up. Wanting to sleep forever and think shes right. Accepting she made me the way i am. Never to be able to change and seeing how ill never be anything else. Whcih gave me power. Gave me fight knowing i could live. Knowing what she did and how she manipulated us. Which changed to anger. When she grew older i drew more powerfull. She was now depending on me. So i used that. I was not traped with her anymore. But she was trapped with me. Becasue she made me as fucked up as i am so she has to live with that. Adding to the fact im trans so my chosen name is whispered around by older people i used to know in discust.

This is what it feels like finally beating a fromsoft boss that you’ve been struggling with for a long time
This song is amazing! I can't help but think of Jaskier's alternate journey. 00:00 - 2:51 = Jaskier after losing everything 3:21 - 5:19 = heartbroken, fighting his inner demons 5:28 - 7:29 = villain era 7:20 - = anger and regret of becoming the bad guy Thank you so much for the lyrics.

This makes me think of a couple that were happy but then something happened and the guy started drinking, he became cold and harsh and gets into bar fights so in the end when it all picks up (like with the “dance with me”) I imagine him kind of forcefully spinning her around in the bar since she came to get him. She has enough and runs away, leaving him with the hollow folks whispers

5:18 is so amazing

Old Witch Sleep (self pity and giving up) is so much gentler than Good Man Grace (willpower), GMG slaps and shouts, very loud and aggressive, while OWS is comforting and gentle, yet OWS is the one who comes across as malicious since this mind isn't a place where comfort and gentle thoughts will help at all. The anger is motivation, desperation and the want to get better than he is.

This fits Alan Wake and Barbara Jagger - and the wider Dark Presence itself - so much, pft.
